User and department management
Introduction
This article gives the basic definitions used in managing users and departments and describes the main features for working with them.
System administrator
Users are initially created in the system by the administrator (the account owner who received the credentials when registering on the product website). The administrator has access to all functions for managing users, departments and other system reference lists. The administrator can also work with the settings of the Odoo platform: manage the set of modules and configure various functions.
As the account owner, you can appoint other users as administrators and give them all rights in the system, or give individual users the rights to manage separate areas of the system.
Users, employees and contacts
An employee is a system user who can take part in collaborative work on documents by creating or executing tasks on a document (resolutions). An employee has a workplace (department), a position and a manager. You can delete an employee, but the corresponding user remains in the system. For example, the administrator is a user who does not have to be an employee or take part in work on documents.
A contact is a record in the contacts reference list. A user has an email address and other contact details, and a contact is created together with the user. Contacts can be individuals and legal entities outside your organization, for example, your partners.
When a user is created, the corresponding contact is created automatically.
Companies
A company is a record in the companies reference list. Every system user belongs to a certain company. Most often there is a single company in the reference list: your organization.
Departments
A department is a structural unit of the company, a division of your organization. Every employee belongs to a department.
